Transmitting VGA over CAT5 in Digital Signage Installations

What is VGA?

Consider these two issues when using VGA-sourced graphics for your digital signage network:

  1. VGA cables are very expensive and difficult to run, so if you're creating a network of digital signs you're going to pay a lot for the VGA cable and its installation.
  2. Distances between source and display affect VGA signal quality, so you have to find some way to tune the signal in order to keep images sharp and readable on distant screens.

Using CAT 5 cable is a viable alternative to transmitting VGA content to digital displays. All you really need is a solution that will digitize VGA-generated graphics content.

The SVSi voLANte digital video LAN is an ideal solution for your existing and future digital signage infrastructure needs. With the voLANte digital video LAN you can:

  • Use standard (and inexpensive) CAT5 cable
  • Keep and use your existing analog systems or content via backwards compatibility
  • Prepare for future upgrades through forward compatibility
